WELCRON has developed a new lightweight ballistic plate designed to reduce weight and thickness while maintaining the protection performance required for military applications.
The newly developed plate achieved approximately 10% lower weight and 7% reduced thickness compared with the ballistic plate then in service with the Korean military, while maintaining an equivalent level of ballistic protection.
The plate was developed to meet NIJ Level IV performance requirements, providing protection against armor-piercing rifle threats while improving mobility and reducing the load carried by military personnel.
In 2022, WELCRON’s lightweight ballistic plate received a BBB rating in the face-to-face evaluation stage of the Korean Ministry of National Defense’s Excellent Commercial Product Pilot Program.
The evaluation considered factors including military suitability, technology and quality, and market and innovation potential. Following the evaluation, the product was presented at the Ministry of National Defense’s 2022 Excellent Commercial Product exhibition in Daejeon, Korea.
The development reflects WELCRON’s continued focus on combining advanced material technologies, ballistic performance, and lightweight design to improve personal protection and operational mobility.
Building on its experience in personal ballistic protection, WELCRON has continued to expand its protection technologies into vehicle and naval applications, including add-on armor and other advanced composite protection solutions.
