WELCRON is strengthening its advanced protection capabilities as demand for vehicle protection solutions continues to grow in global defense markets.

At its 8,264-square-meter defense production facility in Gimhae, Korea, WELCRON manufactures personal ballistic plates, add-on armor for armored vehicles, and advanced composite protection materials. The facility has an annual ballistic plate production capacity of up to 100,000 units.

WELCRON’s vehicle protection solutions are manufactured using advanced composite materials, including ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and ceramics. The manufacturing process covers material cutting, lay-up, high-temperature and high-pressure molding, machining, inspection, and finishing according to the requirements of each defense platform.

Since 2022, WELCRON has supplied add-on armor solutions for wheeled armored vehicles and protective shelters to major Korean defense manufacturers, strengthening its position in the vehicle protection sector.

The company is also expanding its production and engineering capabilities in response to growing international demand. WELCRON plans to continue investing in advanced manufacturing equipment and next-generation protection technologies to support future defense programs.

In personal protection, WELCRON has continued to develop lightweight ballistic solutions. In 2023, one of its lightweight ballistic plates was designated as an Excellent Commercial Product by the Korean Ministry of National Defense, recognizing a design that reduced weight by approximately 10% and thickness by approximately 7% compared with the previous product while maintaining equivalent protection performance.

WELCRON is also advancing the development of mine protection solutions for armored vehicles, building on its experience in composite armor engineering and manufacturing. The company is pursuing protection technologies aligned with international military vehicle protection requirements, including STANAG 4569.

Through continued investment in engineering, manufacturing, quality management, and testing capabilities, WELCRON DEFENSE aims to expand cooperation with global defense manufacturers and system integrators and strengthen its presence in international defense markets.
